Koa Wood Custom
Koa is a tropical hardwood which is found at high elevation in the Hawaiian Islands, especially the Big Island. Acacia Koa is endemic to Hawaii, or grows no where else in the world. It is also a fast growing tree when compared to other Hawaiian trees although it is very rare to find trees of a large size because of the high demand for koa. The early Hawaiians used koa for making canoes and other things. Today it is used for furniture and many other woodworking and craft items including calabash bowls.
Koa has a color that ranges from dark to light brown as well as nice red colors and it can have very curly grain. The wood is heavy, stable and works well.
We feature many specialty custom pieces hand crafted in our shop to give a timeless, classic gift, award, or even nametags. We can also engrave your koa item to make it personalized.
There are many other woods that may be used to design your award such as Mango and Monkey Pod.
